An analysis by a civil engineer of navigation from the Great Lakes to the Eastern seaboard as well as to the West. He speculates that the best means of connecting "the Sacramento Valley in California, where most of the population of California is congregated" to the East will be by rail to the Columbia River and thence by existing navigable waterways and proposed canals.
