Description:
Ordinance of the Convention assembled to form a Constitution for the State of California, in relation to the Disposition of the public lands in that State (US Senate Doc.105, April 22, 1850) 2pp.
Noting that 500,000 acres of "unappropriated public lands" in California belonged to the US Government, proposes to Congress that one section of land in every quarter township should granted to the state for the use of schools; 72 sections "set apart and reserved for the use and support of a university"; and 4 sections "for the use in establishing a seat of government", the choice of Sacramento as capital city still being years away.
