Description
House d'Orleans. A historic set of large wall chargers in a Classical taste. They are made of thick embossed brass, displaying a noble man and woman portraits. Each has a quince and grape fruit border, with Satyr heads and a coat-of-arms with a Ducal or Royal crown up top. Three fleur-de-lis within a Catalan shield, arranged differently on each portrait. Commemorate a dynastic union, or anniversary of within the French ruling House of Orleans. Exceptional craftsmanship and display, fine details and relief, ALL HAND HAMMERED, not machine-made, using molds. The set dates back to the late 1700's/early 1800's, possibly older. Measurements: Approx. 24" diameter of each. Together, the set weighs over 8.5 lbs.
Condition
Choice patina, developed over time although they've been cleaned and somewhat polished fairly recently. Both have some cracks from the great age, repaired with lead solder as seen on the back. They still display wonderfully
