Description
1938 Special Issues with St. Stephen/Istvan. Pre-WWII Hungary. 640% silver. Incused edge. Obverse: "MAGYAR KIRÁLYSÁG", coat of arms, value, mintmark B P., year of minting. Reverse: "SZT ISTVÁN", "969-1038", Stephen I of Hungary. Minted 1938, issued 12 August t.y.Withdrawn: 31 October 1945. Initially, higher value coins were made of silver to reflect value and stability. Later, during the second world war, these coins were replaced first by banknotes and later by aluminium coins. By the end of 1945, peng? coins completely lost their value due to rampant inflation. Measurements: Diameter: 36.0 mm; Thickness: 3.0 mm; Mass: 25.0 g each (50.0 grams total)
