"The cottage pie,

William Shayer was painter of landscapes, genre and coastal scenes. He first trained as a coach-painter. He worked in Chichester until 1810 when he returned to his native Hampshire. Throughout his career he painted local scenes, the coast around Southampton and woodland scenes in The New Forest. He exhibited 6 works at the Royal Academy, 82 at the British Institution, and 338 at Suffolk Street. His works can be seen at the Victoria & Albert Museum, the Fitzwilliam Museum, Cambridge. York Art Gallery and Southampton Art Gallery."
