Desportes was the foremost French Painter of still-lives of the period. He enjoyed the Royal Patronage of King Louis X1V and The House of Bourbon, which lasted for nearly fifty years. Desportes was clearly influenced by Dutch still-life painters, most notably Frans Snyders (1579-1657). He worked at the Gobelins Tapestry Factory and also exhibited frequently at the Paris Salon until 1742. His works can be seen in the National Gallery of Ireland, the National Gallery, London and the Louvre, Paris."
