"Farm with figures and sheep near a barn,
Oil on panel,

Provenance: Sir Charles Henry Coote, 9th Baronet (1792-1864), Ballyfin House, Co. Laois.

Sir Charles was the eldest Son of Chidley Coote of Ash Hill, Co. Limerick. In 1814 he married Caroline Whaley of Whaley Abbey, Co. Wicklow. In 1815 he assumed control of the Montrath Estates in Queen’s County. Shortly afterwards he purchased from William Wellesley Pole the neighbouring seat of Ballyfin. Ballyfin House was constructed between 1821-26. The Coote Family were the biggest landowners in Co. Laois with over 47,000 acres. Lewis, in his Topographical Dictionary of Ireland, describes Ballyfin as ""one of the finest mansions"" in Ireland, ""filled up in the most costly style, containing a fine collection of paintings, sculptures and busts.""
