Document Signed Three Times by Martin Van Buren !
MARTIN VAN BUREN, (1782-1862). 8th President of the United States, First President of the United States to be born as an American Citizen!
May, 1818-Dated Partially Printed Document Signed “M. Van Buren, Atty. Genl”, as Attorney General of the State of New York, one page, measuring approximately 13” x 7.75”, Very Fine. It reads, in full:

“Of the term of May in the Year One Thousand Eight Hundred and Eighteen ----

Supreme Court. Albany, SS. --- The People of the State of New-York, by MARTIN VAN BUREN, their Attorney-General, complain of Henry Clark Gentleman one of the Attornies of this Honorable Court, being present here in Court, in his proper person, of a plea of trespass on the case, for that whereas the said Henry on the first day of June, in the year one thousand eight hundred and seventeen at the city of Albany, in the county of Albany, was indebted to the said people the sum of Two Hundred Dollars, of lawful money of the United States, as well for work, labor and services, before that time, done and performed by the Clerks of this honorable Court, for the said Henry at his special instance and request, as for divers materials and necessary things used in and about the said work, before that time found and provided by the said People, at the like special instance and request of the said Henry and being so indebted he the said Henry in consideration thereof, afterwards, to wit, on the same day and year aforesaid, at the said city of Albany, and in the county aforesaid, undertook and faithfully promised that he the said Henry would well and truly pay the said sum of Two Hundred Dollars to the said People, when he the said Henry should be thereunto required: Nevertheless the said Henry not regarding his said promise and undertaking so made as aforesaid, but contriving and fraudulently intending to deceive and defraud the said People in this behalf has not paid to them the said some of money, or any part thereof, although to pay the same to them the said Henry afterwards, to wit, on the same day and year aforesaid, at the said city of Albany, in the county of Albany, was requested by the said People, but the said Henry to pay the same to them has hitherto refused, and does yet refuse, to the damage of the said People of Two Hundred Dollars and thereof they pray relief, &c. -- (Signed) M. Van Buren, Atty. Genl.”

Docket on reverse is also Hand-written by Buren and bears his signature in two places, reads, in full:

“Supreme Court, The People vs. Henry Clark, Bill, M. Van Buren, Attorney Genl. ---

Sir, Take notice that on filing bill of which the within is a copy in the office of Francis Blodgood Esquire one of the clerks of this court a rule was entered in the book of common rules that the defendant please thereto in twenty days after service of a copy & notice of said rule or judgment - Albany, June, 1818. ---- (Signed) M. Van Buren, Attorney General, To Henry Clark, Esq.”

Document is in excellent condition with some toning and minor splits at folds. A rare specimen with three separate signatures from a future U.S. President.
