Scarce Revolutionary War Era Soldier’s Camp Rundlet
c. 1750-1815 Wooden Barrel Style Rundlet with Iron Bands and Blue Paint, Revolutionary War Era - War of 1912 Canteen, Choice Fine.
Rundlets, also called “rum kegs” or “swiglers”, were often used as canteens and drinking vessels -- mostly for spirits -- during the Revolutionary War era to the War of 1812 or so. Approximately 10” tall and 6” in diameter. Appears to have originally been painted blue, now faded but with nice old patina. An excellent addition to any Revolutionary War Collection or War of 1812 display. Also, this type is as shown and described in Neumann’s, “Early American Antique Country Furnishings.”
