1861 Magee Imprint President Abraham Lincoln Postal Cover
1861 Early Civil War, President Abraham Lincoln vignette Postally Used Patriotic Cover, Lincoln Tells His Generals: “The Constitution and Government must be sustained.” (Walcott 212), Very Fine.
Rare design, colorful red & blue design, Magee Imprint name on the upper reverse, 3c Stamp (Scott-65), Fine, tied on this Postally Used Cover, to Theresa, New York by Washington, D.C. Circular Date Stamp, two small stains in address panel, Very Fine. A lovely Patriotic rarity, depicting President Lincoln holding the Constitution as he talks with Generals Scott and McClellan – Little Mac did not even have the courtesy to get off his horse when being addressed by his Commander! (No wonder he got fired!). “Old Fuss and Feathers” General Scott was off the scene by 1862, thus dating this Cover to early in the Civil War, 1861. (Cataloged by Dr. James Milgram as AL-286 in Abraham Lincoln Illustrated Envelopes and Letter Paper 1860-1865), the design is one of the best found.
