Famous Signers on Colonial Currency
June 9, 1780 New Jersey Signed By Brearley & Dickinson
DAVID BREARLEY and PHILEMON DICKINSON. David Brearley was a Signer of the US Constitution in 1787 and Colonel of a NJ Regiment in the Continental Army 1776-77.
Philemon Dickinson was a Commanding General NJ Militia 1775-76, Continental Congressman who Picked the Site for the U.S. Capitol in 1781.
Fr. NJ-184. State of New Jersey. June 9, 1780. One Dollar. Fully Signed “Guaranteed by the United States” Issue, Signed by David Brearley and Philemon Dickinson. The reverse side “Guarantee” line is signed by Joseph Borden. Printed in red and black, having a clean pleasing appearance. This note actually paid a 5% Annual Interest rate with the payment schedule listed at the bottom left side of the face. Only 12,000 notes were authorized to be printed, to redeem older Continental notes at a rate of 40 “old” to 1 “new” Dollar. A scarce, highly popular red and black printed issue with three historic signers.
