Description
Maryland Currency
Exceedingly Rare June 8, 1780 Maryland Colonial Note Nearly Equal In Its Quality to the Newman Plate Specimen
State of Maryland. June 8, 1780. One Third of a Dollar. Restoration. PMG Net graded Very Fine-20.
Fr. MD-105. This note is one of the very finest to be offered at public auction from this exceedingly rare, late 1780 Maryland issue. It has some deft marginal corner restoration and conservation, likely from once being removed from a hinge mount on the reverse. Listed in “THE EARLY PAPER MONEY OF AMERICA” with a valuation of $3,750 in Very Fine. One should consider that this note appears to be about the equal in overall quality to the Newman plate example for this issue as illustrated on page 176. Specialists can acquire a significant, attractive Maryland Currency rarity that is certainly missing in virtually all collections. A very important opportunity.
