Historicism mantle clock with unusual technical features with balance wheel
This visually appealing mantel clock by Samuel Marti from Paris delights with its solid casing made ??of bright onyx. The colors harmonize perfectly with the neoclassical decoration of gilt brass. The large urn top with onyx inlays appears very imposing. The clock works with balance wheel and has a half-hour rack strike on bell.
The mantel clock is signed with ‘S. Marti et Cie Medaille de Bronze’ in the coin mark as well as numbered 10269 D.V. on the movement and on the bezel. During a short-term test, it was fully functional, with no guarantee on long-term precision and regularity. The dimensions are 54 x 29.5 x 17 cm. The clock comes with a winding key.
Samuel Marti & Cie
Samuel Marti was born in Langenthal in the Canton of Bern in Switzerland. In 1830, he moved to France. In 1832, he founded a factory for the production of pendulum clock movements and blanks along with his partners Boilloux and Moser. From 1841, he was the sole owner of the company S. Marti & Cie. After his death in 1869, his son Samuel Augustus took over the company.
