Early Roman Museum replica of the most famous discovery of Pompeii

The Dancing Faun is one of the most famous Roman bronzes of Pompeii. It was originally on display in the ‘House of the Faun’, named after it, which was spilled during the eruption of the Vesuvius in 79 AD. In the 19th century, the statue was excavated and stored since then at the National Archaeological Museum in Naples. A copy is now in Pompeii. The present bronze is a replica of the famous figure. It is characterized by a dynamic expression of the faun. In walking position and the arms stretched upward, the faun looks skyward. The curly hair is adorned with a wreath of acorns. The figure corresponds to the original with the exception of the grape leaf that covers the pudency, pointing to an origin in the 19th century.

The sculpture is in good condition, showing small traces of oxidation. The stone and marble base is chipped in places. The overall height, including the base, is 59 cm. The height of the figure is 46 cm.
