Rare and touching equestrian bronze by the German sculptor Daumiller, that impresses with a very naturalistic modeling. An execution of this figure was exhibited in the Munich ‘Glaspalast’ in the year 1924

This impressive bronze is the work of the German sculptor Adolf Gustav Daumiller (1876-1962) from the 1920s. With devotion, a praying knight sits on his beautiful and muscular horse. The bronze has been executed with a great skill, and numerous charming details make this powerful bronze a stunning masterpiece. The knight's armor in the style of the 13th century with a triangular shield adorned with a lion, which bears the noble knight on his back, his finely crafted chain armour, the chain shoes and the detailed drapery of his skirt are of particular note. His face shows a fascinating expressive power.

The bronze is signed in the cast with ‘A. Daumiller’ on the plinth. It is in very good condition, showing some small nicks to the marble base. The overall dimensions of the figure, including the marble base, are approximately 64 x 54 x 22 cm.

Adolf Gustav Daumiller (1876-1962)

Adolf Gustav Daumiller first attended the Academy in Hanau and then the Academy in Munich. For two years, he continued his education in London and then studied at the Académie Julian and the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris. From 1908 onwards, Daumiller worked in Munich, where he regularly exhibited in the Glaspalast. The artist produced sculptures, grave stones, medals and commemorative plaques. Moreover, he designed figures, which were produced by the Rosenthal porcelain manufactory. Daumiller was a member of the Munich artists' association and the artist society Allotria.
