The present bronze by Hermann Haase-Ilsenburg (1879-1960) depicts a meditative nude girl sitting on a mythical creature. Reminiscent of a horse, the fabulous beast has large hanging horns of a buffalo, hooves and a long tail. The young girl sits cross-legged and absorbed in thought in a slightly bent position on the back of the animal, holding a flowers in her hand. The animal stands on an oval plinth and on a high oval and stepped marble base. This is a typical bronze by Haase-Ilsenburg, which he has executed in numerous variations.
The high-quality bronze is signed with ‘HAASE-ILSENBURG.’ on the plinth. It is in very good condition, showing minor losses of the patination in part. The overall dimensions, including the base, are approximately 51 x 41 x 14 cm.
Hermann Otto Haase-Ilsenburg (1879-1960)
Hermann Haase-Ilsenburg worked as a sculptor in Berlin. In addition to his sculptures, he also created medals. From 1903 onwards, the artist exhibited his genre sculptures at the Great Berlin Art Exhibition. The museum in Poznan owns the work ‘Märchen’ (Fairytale), and the city of Berlin has acquired the work ‘Frühling‘ (Spring).
