Magnificent and rare etched model armor of a significant provenance
This rare model of a 19th century suit of armor most likely originates from the home of the Italian noble family Visconti. The armor appears to be completely intact and is composed of the following parts: helmet consisting of skull and visor, gorget, pauldrons, breastplate, back plate, vambraces, gauntlets, cuishes, knee cops, greaves and iron sollerets. The front of the arms shows a finely etched floral decoration. The center boasts the coat of arms of the Counts Visconti from Milan depicting a snake devouring a child. The same coat of arms is depicted on the matching shield.
The knight's armor is in good condition considering its age. Some more phalanges to the iron gloves may be missing, since there are remnants of leather straps. The leather straps are somewhat brittle or lost. The armor show slight traces of oxidation. The base shows some paint losses. The total height of the armor, including the base, is circa 90 cm.
