Description
CHURCHILL WINSTON S.: (1874-1965) British Prime Minister 1940-45, 1951-55. Nobel Prize winner for Literature, 1953. A good L.S., Winston S. Churchill, with holograph salutation and subscription, two pages, 8vo, Mount Street, 16th November 1905, to Viscount Northcliffe ('My dear Harmsworth'), marked 'Private' in Churchill's hand. Churchill sends his correspondent a circular and remarks 'I have seen no notice of it in the Press, and I should think a paragraph framed upon it would be entirely original especially if you add in the part about the binding which you are quite welcome to do' and further continues 'May I ask you not to mention the price paid by Macmillans to me because I think Macmillan would prefer it not to be stated publicly and precisely'. He concludes 'I will certainly send a proof of my speech on the 25th at Leeds to Mr. Bell of The Observer'. With blank integral leaf. Accompanied by the circular referred to by Churchill, being a printed 8vo leaflet issued by Macmillan and Company Ltd. to promote Churchill's work Lord Randolph Churchill, in two volumes with portraits, and incorporating two order forms, one for purchasers wishing to give the book as a Christmas gift.
