Uncommon pocket size edition, printed in Naples, of Cujas' fundamental reference work of Corpus Justiniani quotations, contained in the works of the main writers of ancient Rome and Greece.
Jacques Cujas developed a deep textual analysis in Svetonius, Tertullian, Herodianus, Horace, Juvenal and others, looking for quotes of the items included in Codex.
The great humanist and jurisconsult Jacques Cujas (Tolosa, 1522-1590; Latin name Cuiacius) was follower, with Alciatus, of mos Gallicus in the study of the sources of Roman Law, in opposition to the more traditional mos italicus. He was a teacher in Cahors, Bourges, Valencia and Turin, and was a well known legal historian, from roman sources to Corpus Justineaneum. Important bibliophile, he owned an important library where he studied and noted more than 500 various manuscripts.
