Description
Early 20th century, Republic period. The tenth animal in the Chinese zodiac, roosters are said to ward off evil and are symbolic of reliability, male vigor, achievement and fame. Depicted with tail feathers fanned out, this rooster stands on two feet with its wings pointing down. Fine detail to feathers, beak open, with loss to comb, tongue and toes. Approx. 11 by 9 in., 27.5 by 24 cm.
