(American, 1896-1970) Circa 1926 watercolor on paper published in Bland Tomtar och Troll(Among Elves and Trolls), a Swedish fairytale annual, and again in The Rat Catcher by Andrew Lang, Stockholm, Ahlen & Akerlunds Forlag, 1926.. Gustaf Tenggren was a well-known book illustrator in the 1920s and was hired by the Walt Disney Company in 1936 to work on Snow White and The Seven Dwarfs. Tenggren gave Snow White the “old world” look that Disney was looking for on his first feature length film. Tenggren later worked on Bambi, Pinocchio, and several shorts, including the groundbreaking The Old Mill. This painting measures 10 x 8 in. and is signed by the artist at the lower right.
