Description

SP A vintage 36 x 27.5cm black and white landscape photograph by Bertram Park of King George VI in the Grenadier Guards uniform astride a horse. Bromide print. Signed and dated in ink to lower white margin "George R. 1949". Also signed by Park in pencil at bottom left. Ink browned. Overall mounted on white cardboard. A 4cm closed tear to lower left corner, along with a few other closed tears to right margin. Water stains to lower margin, but signature remains unaffected. Framed and glazed, overall size 42 x 31.7cm. A rare and evocative image of the post-war Britain. A founder member of the London Salon of Photography in 1910, Betram Park was one of the leading portrait photographers in London boasting several European crown heads among his sitters.
