Description
R-017 Unusual Indian talwar type weapon. Age darkened "fitted" grip with a wide basket type grip on a traditional short crossguard with domed quillons. One of the tips of the extended langets is missing. Guard is turned upwards and narrows culminating in a turn-back finial. Round disc pommel with sloping "beehive" sitting on a serrated "wheel". Curved 1 1/2" rounded end finial. 29 1/2" blade has a slight curve similar to a yataghan blade. Unusual with a fuller down to the center and a simulated serrated spine which continues for 19". Engraved with back-to-back 1/2 circles with three dots on each end. An interesting weapon which seems to combine traditional talwar features with the vertical line of a firangi and wider type guard of the khonda. Circa early 19th Century (from a museum deaccession).
