Description
K-011 Named British officer's sword with an American attribution. Age darkened brass urn shaped pommel/finial and reverse "D" knuckle-bow. Wire wrapping is missing from the wood grip. Slightly turned-up clam shell guard in engraved "Adam Logan MD - 67th Regt.". 29 7/8" straight blade is darkened from age and shows use. Original engravings on obverse show a thistle and crown over a cypher "GR". Reverse has a stand-of-arms and a crowned national shield. Spine is maker marked "J. J. Runkel Solingen". (An 1803 roster shows Adam Logan as the "surgeon" of the 67th Regiment. The sword maker "J.J. Runkel" worked in London 1796 - 1820. Seeing this sword was discovered in a New Hampshire attic, it's probably a Northern Border acquisition during the War of 1812. Further research may show if Logan continued to serve with the 67th Foot or was transferred to another regiment). Historical relic. II-.
