Description
K-110 Lot of 16 CDV's of members of Astor's Artillery Battery. Formed and paid for by Colonel John Jacob Astor at the start of the Spanish-American War. The Unit saw service as the 1st Mountain Battery organized for the American Army. It was later sent to the Philippines for service. At the time many of its members were photographed at a studio in Manila. 14 of the 16 photo cards are signed and include the addresses and some are dated October or November 1898. Interesting in that 12 of the individuals are wearing their campaign hats, practically all have on their military belt/holster and 2 are actually holding their Colt revolvers. Nine of the cards have tissue covers (with graphics) to protect the image. A scarce historical grouping. II
