Käthe Kollwitz is one of the most famous German artists of the 20th century, whose expressive graphics are preserved in museums and private collections; the signed etching ‘Begrüssung’ fetches up to €4.200 at international auctions

In addition to often ruthlessly realistic depictions of death, war and suffering Käthe Kollwitz also creates, as in this print, consistently touchingly affectionate captured motifs of mothers with their children. Here the scene is supplemented by a male figure, perhaps the father, who under the smiling view of the mother looks lovingly on a small boy on his arms.

The etching is signed lower right in pencil ‘Käthe Kollwitz’. The sheet is minor discolored, the margins especially along the edges somewhat foxed. There are two small glue remains on the reverse, slightly showing through on recto. It is overall in good age-appropriate condition. The plate measures 11.8 x 8.8 cm, the sheet 29.6 x 20.5 cm. The framed dimensions are 31.2 x 22 cm.
