In his work, the British artist Damien Hirst deals with fundamental issues of human existence such as life and death. In 2007, he caused a sensation with his diamond-studded, life-size platinum cast of a human skull that he exhibited at London's White Cube Gallery. Through the precious sparkling stud he helped the traditional Memento Mori motif to various connotations. This print that shows the skull in frontal view, was published by Other Criteria Edition in an edition of 1700 copies.


The serigraph in colors is signed lower right in white color crayon ‘Damien Hirst ‘, and numbered lower left in white color crayon ‘118/1000’. The sheet is in very good condition and hinged to a backboard at the reverse upper sheet corners. The frame is in good condition with slight signs of wear. The image measures 23.9 x 12.5 cm, the sheet 32.5 x 24 cm. The framed dimensions are 43 x 34 cm.


Damien Hirst (born 1965)

From 1986 to 1989, the British artist studied art at Goldsmiths College in London without wishing to be bound to an art form. The exhibition ‘Freeze’ that he organized in 1988 in an unused warehouse in London's port district showing his own works and works of his fellow students brought him public attention. Hirst, who often employs in his works with themes of death and life, religion and consumer culture became famous in the 1990s by animal bodies preserved in formaldehyde. Also, the diamond adorned platinum cast of a human skull, that Hirst exhibited in 2007 and sold the same year to a record price, caused a stir.
