Description
A rare and important Chinese QianLong Period Imperial Famille Rose CORAL-RED Bowl in Original Box. Simply flat rim and base, Exterior and interior are vividly Hand painted in famille rose design of four seasons flowers including peonies, chrysanthemums, lotus, plum, along with dragonflies and butterflies, all reserved against red-coral color background. The drawing was superb contrasting the red background. The original wooden box having square shape covered in metallic imperial blue silk adorned by auspicious archaistic medallion threads, with sliding panel lids. Imperial yellow silk with flowers and figs threads wrapped the hard cushion fit perfectly to the bowl. Mark on base Six Golden Seal Scripts, QianLong Reign Period; and prob. of the period

Kerr, Chinese Ceramics, Porcelain of the Qing Dynasty, London, 1986, pl. 93; two other examples in the National Palace Museum, decorated with the four seasonal flowers, are illustrated in Fine Enameled Porcelain of the Ch'ing Dynasty, Yung Cheng Period, CAFA, Book II, 1967, pls. 34 and 35. A further example from the T.Y. Chao Collection was sold at Christie's Hong Kong, 1 December 2009, lot 1917.
