Description
Chinese Ming XuanDe Cloisonne Gilt Bronze Censer; 15th c. Bulbous body on raised on flared rim. Five gilt lines banded on opening mouth to the foot rim. Two foo-dogs guardians flanked on both shoulders to the body formed handles. Vividly decorated in details with continuous lotus flowers, showing surrounding chakra on the center lotus symbols. The composition is sophisticated and the colors are a feast for the eye.
The cloisonne decorating has been done with impressive fluency and detail. As sacrificial sets are considered quite rare, this set from XuanDe's imperial workmanship is an absolute highlight. Mark on Base, incised four Seal Script, XuanDe Reign Period
