Place Published: Seneca Falls, NY
Publisher:
Date Published: [c.1915]
Description:
Album of 61 gelatin silver photographs, backed with linen. Captioned in the negatives. Brad-bound in leather album, 15.5x24 cm. (6x9½").
Exceptional series of original photographs showing the interior workings of this large pump manufacturing operation, reminiscent of the work of Lewis Hine. The photographs, starting with a line drawing of their extensive factories, show the executive offices and the various manufacturing an assembly operations, with dozens of men manning massive machinery run by steam driven belts. The pouring of molten ore into molds, the finishing work of pump components, enormous testing rooms for quality control, and hundreds of iron and brass components ready for the final assembly area are depicted. The Gould Manufacturing Company, which continues to this day.
