Description
Serial No. 49697. It is not often that a particular revolver can be put directly into the hands of the Confederate Cavalry of the Civil War. This Remington .44 standard percussion revolver is accompanied by a Springfield research letter that indicates serial No. 49697 was delivered to the 3rd Arkansas Volunteer Cavalry, Company K circa December 1863. Members of this unit fought in numerous historic battles, most noteworthy being the battles of Chickamauga, Chattanooga "Battle of the Clouds", and the Siege of Atlanta against Sherman's army. As to the condition of the revolver, it remains in as issued all original condition. All metal surfaces being a clean grey-brown patina. The front sight post has been replaced. Grips are very good. Gun has several Martial acceptance stamps. Cylinder indexes perfectly. Bore is excellent albeit a hint of frost. Fine and rare Confederate identified revolver with letter.
