The label on the back of this luminous and rhythmic 1960's floral still life shows that it was framed at a tony Newbury Street shop in Boston. It is an early example of acrylic palette knife painting, and is signed Muir. The paint is applied thickly, with a sure hand and an eye for color harmony. I have not yet determined which Muir painted this, but two things stand out: The artist was trained and accomplished, and the artist was at the forefront of the movement away from oil paints and into acrylics. The painting is on a New Masters brand of acrylic-primed canvas board, (New Masters was a pioneering brand of acrylic paint for artists) and is in excellent shape, in its original frame.
