Description
Architectural or garden large Tabby shell finial for interior or exterior use. This one has small round furniture protectors on the bottom suggesting it was used inside. Tabby shell, found only in the Southeastern Low-country has been used as a substitute for bricks and other building material from Colonial days until the early 1900's. Extremely strong and labor intensive, crushing oyster shells and burning them to produce lime which was mixed with sand and water. The material produces various light and dark tones from the shell along with a somewhat pitted image yet smooth to the touch. As seen on the bottom the finial is one inch thick with a hollow interior. Excellent condition with no cracks or chips. Measures 24 H X 7.5 L X 7.5 D. Item ID: LPT3823
