Description
This charming winter plein air oil painting is signed Gasparovic and dates from around 1940. There are tiny pin-holes in the corners and the top and bottom centers. (You can see one in the center of the bottom edge -- the others are covered by the frame.) They are not flaws! They are evidence of being painted on location and then being packed for transport back to the artist's studio. The holes are made by a style of spacer which some artists use to keep wet paintings apart from each other so they can be packed into a box. The spacer looks like a small spool with a pin at the top and the bottom. The pins stick into the canvases to keep them from moving and touching each other. The view and style of painting are typical of mid-century paintings made in New England. Knowing that the artist stood out in the cold to paint it, adds to the appreciation of this little gem. It is a small painting , 10"x14", but is skillfully painted to draw the viewer into the scene. The painting is oil on canvas board, and it is installed in an attractive new burl-wood frame. Frame size is approx. 12"x16". Item ID: 4060AUT-3 Fixed Price Shipping & Insurance on this item =$22.00
