Very good condition

This bright Autumn landscape is a beautiful painting by the Austrian artist Karl Kaufmann and was painted around 1890. In the centre, there is a group of birch trees, whose multi-coloured leaves already ring in the new season. On the left side we can see a placidly flowing river, whereas a walkway by the trees turns right into the picture. The scenery is framed by a pale blue sky with heap clouds. Kaufmann often signed his works with diverse pseudonyms, so that there are numerous paintings with different signatures by Kaufmann known today. This piece was signed with the authorised name ‘B. Lambert’.



The painting is in a very good condition with only small traces of age and use. The margins of the canvas show slight traces of framing. The stretcher frame measures 66 cm in height and 91 cm in width. The wooden, golden coloured frame shows small traces of use and measures 80 cm in height and 104 cm in width.



Karl Kaufmann (1843-1905)

Karl Kaufmann started his artistic education at the Academy of Vienna. He subsequently travelled through European countries, such as Norway, the Netherlands, Germany or Italy. Kaufmann developed a sensitive feeling for environments and atmospheres, which helped him to specialise in landscape and architectural painting. One special feature of his oeuvre is his habit to sign his works with pseudonyms. For instance, the names ‘B. Lambert’, ‘Charles Marchand’ or ‘C. Charpentier’ are well-known signatures by Kaufmann.
