Rudolf Kämmer Porcelain Manufactory
Porcelain figure of an English or Spanish nobleman from the medieval ages
Marked underneath the plinth
Height: 35.8 cm
The porcelain figure was crafted by the Porcelain Manufactory Rudolf Kämmer, dated from 1961 to 1990. A nobleman is standing on a naturalistic plinth with high stub of English or Spanish origin. He is wearing a knight’s gown of the medieval ages and depicted in elegant pose. In his left hand he is holding a stick or a scroll. In very detailed manner are single pieces of the figure with polychrome and golden staffage shaped.
The maker’s mark K with a crown by the Porcelain Manufactory Rudolf Kämmer is located underneath the plinth. The condition of the porcelain figure is good with age-related signs of wear. The left hand has been glued on again after it was removable. A piece of the plinth at the left foot had been broken but has been secured again. The staffage depicts colour abrasion on the entire corpus, and surface marks like scratches. The height of the sculpture is 35.8 cm.
Rudolf Kämmer Porcelain Manufactory
The porcelain manufactory was established under Anton Müller and Otto Hammer in 1912 in Rudolstadt-Volkstedt. The porcelain manufactory stands for typical Thüringen porcelain. The manufactory produces porcelain figures, pugs, tobacco pipe, white ware and also lithophanes in elaborate hand work. After the factory had been destroyed entirely during the Second World War, the factory started a comeback with Kramer and Kämmer in 1946. The company was nationalized in 1972, and reprivatized after the German unity under Erhard Kämmer.
