This hat dates to the 19th/20th century and was traditionally worn by Bedouin women. The bonnet is made of fabric and adorned with six rows of iron coins and metal ornaments. In Bedouin culture women are the keepers of the family wealth, which they display for all to see. The more coins sewn onto a hat, the wealthier the family. Missing rows of coins would indicate that the family had to pay debts, medical expenses or the like.
The headdress is in fair condition with significant signs of age and wear and some losses. The cloth shows holes and stains. The diameter is approx. 16 cm, the weight is approx. 1378 g. (tfa)
