Salvador Dali (1904-1989) is one of the best known artists of the 20th century. As a prominent Surrealist and Cubist, he created some of the most memorable works of art in public consciousness, including The Persistence of Memory, and the dream sequence in Alfred Hitchcock's film "Spellbound". He also worked with Walt Disney on the animated feature Destino, and established the Dali Foundation before his death in Spain. His work is housed in some of the world's most respected collections, including the National Portrait Gallery in Washington, DC; the Ikeda Collection of 20th Century Art in Shizuoka, Japan; the Centre Pompidou in Paris; and the Tate Modern in London.
