Description
Sagiike Heikuro Slaying a Badger at Kusunoki Masatsura's Mansion, 1855

Fantastic image of the warrior Sagiike Heikuro slaying a supernatural badger in the back garden of Kusunoki Masatsura's mansion. Heikuro crouches at left, gripping his bloody sword as the wounded animal leaps into the air, snarling and clawing in a cloud of black smoke with red flames swirling around it. At right, the party inside the mansion watches with concern, one samurai standing with a foot atop the railing as he holds out a lantern. Another warrior has leapt to his feet at right, while Kusunoki sits in the back of the room, scowling quietly. A great dramatic image with wonderful detail in the palace and garden setting.

28 1/2" x 14 1/2"
Condition
With excellent color and detail. Three panels attached at the seams. Partially backed with old paper. Some rubbing and soiling at edges as shown. Some creasing and wrinkling in subject. A number of small holes repaired from reverse. Please see photos for details. Good overall.
