Description
Mountain Village Teahouse
The incredible Edo Castle inner compound included a beautiful garden area designed to resemble the quiet mountainous regions of Japan, complete with a rustic teahouse. This lovely, tranquil spot was intended as a place of respite for the women of Edo Castle. Here, three palace beauties watch a cock fight while enjoying the rural pleasures of the garden, a blossoming cherry tree framing the scene. Nicely detailed with embossing on the white rooster's feathers and the white kimono trim. This subject appears on page 175 of Bruce A. Coats's recent book Chikanobu: Images of Modernity and Nostalgia.
