Prince Genji and Beauties near the Water, 1852

Handsome triptych depicting Prince Genji and a pair of beauties near the water's edge. He smiles cheerfully as he gestures to the woman behind him, who carries an elegant red lacquer tobacco set. The woman at right serves as his sword bearer, carrying his weapon upright. She wears a kimono shaded from rose to pale pink and patterned with large white peonies. A stone embankment with arched bridges leads across the water behind them, with a mansion visible at right and mountains in the distance. Lovely color and detail in the charming subject, including a subtle burnished geometric pattern in the black kimono, and embossing in the white kimono trim of the woman at left.

With excellent color and detail. Some rubbing and soiling at edges. A few light spots and stains. A horizontal crease at center. A few small holes repaired from reverse.
