This Corinthian pottery alabastron dates from the 6th century BC and has a typical pear-shaped body with an overhanging mouth edge and a small eyelet for suspension. The body features a carved decoration and a black and red figurative painting, depicting a male winged sphinx and stylized flowers. The mouth edge is decorated with a black geometric decor. Albastra were used in ancient times to store aromatic fluids for women.
The vessel is overall in in good, restored condition with major losses of the painting. A piece of the mouth edge was broken off and has been fixed. The height is 11 cm. (cko)
