The present akinak, a Scythian iron dagger from the 6th-4th century BC, features a double-edged blade, the typical heart-shaped guard and a short hilt with a curved volute-like knob. Such daggers were used by the Scythians and Persians in-hand combats particularly in the middle and the second half of the first millennium BC.
