The present shabti dates from the 26th dynasty of Egypt (664-525 BC). The statuette served as a burial object. It shows the characteristic mummy shape and strikes particularly by the decorative hieroglyphs. Ever since the New Kingdom of Egypt (circa 1550-1070 BC), the shabtis were regarded as servant figures that have been invocated to do various labors for the deceased. The flail in the left hand of the shabti refers to this function.
The figure is in good condition considering its age. The glaze is almost completely lost. The height of the figure is 11 cm. (cko)
