Large Egyptian shabti with very finely worked details
The present Egyptian shabti from the 26th dynasty was used as a burial object and shows the characteristic mummy form. The lower part of the body is adorned with finely carved hieroglyphics. The figure holds a shepherd's crook and a flail in his hands - attributes that refer to the function of the shabti: Ever since the New Kingdom (approx. 1550-1070 BC) shabtis were regarded as servant figures that were invocated to accomplish various works for the deceased.
The figure is in good condition considering its age. The back shows remains of the original (presumably turquoise) glaze. The height is 19 cm. (cko)
