Description
Attractive Mixtec polychrome footed bowl from Mexico ca. 1000 to 1500 AD . The footed base flares to a wide bowl with slightly corseted sides. The exterior is beautifully painted in black against a vibrant orange slip. The midsection shows a stepped pyramid pattern with a double dash linear design. The top is decorated with highly stylized zoomorphic / possibly crocodile glyphs. The Crocodile glyph was a sign for "Day" in the Mixtec language. The interior is a deep red. A fine example that displays well. Just under 7" across x 4" tall
Condition
Condition is good. Minor surface wear overall with one restored rim piece and chipping around the base. Otherwise intact and original.
