Item Details
Description
Michael Perchin (Faberge workmaster from 1860-1903), collection of two very fine Russian silver and enamel lidded eggs comprising of one freestanding egg with gold washed interior marked with 84 silver standard or assay mark on interior edge; and a footed enamel egg with gold washed interior marked with 84 silver standard or assay mark, figural bust mark likely a Kokoshnik mark (1896-1908), and Michael Perchin mark in Russian Cyrillic. Both eggs with finely handled similar enameling with patterning, C scrolls and flowers in dark and pale blue, red, and white. Height of footed egg approximately 3.9". Height of free standing egg approximately 2.75". Note: Michael Perchin is one of Faberge's most famous and skilled workmasters. Perchin was senior workmaster responsible for the crafting of Imperial eggs from circa 1885 until his death in 1903. His Cyrillic hallmark appears on all but the first egg created under his supervision during those years. As one of these eggs includes his mark and he was under exclusive contract with Faberge, it logically follows that these eggs (due to their aesthetic similarities, craftsmanship and mark) were created for Faberge. Furthermore, the Kokoshnik mark features a left facing figure which ties to 1896-1908 Russian silver marks rather than the more unified form established by the government in 1908 with the Kokoshnik woman’s head facing right. The time period (1896-1908) correlates with the era in which Perchin was creating Russian silver and enamel eggs for Faberge (1885-1903). Alternate spellings of Michael Evlampievitch Perchin include: Michel Perchin, Mikhail Perchin and Mikhail Perkhin.
