Description
Karl Zerbe (German/American, 1903-1972). "Gem 132" - 1968, acrylic, cut paper, and mixed media on paper. Painting on handmade paper depicts a single human figure in silhouette running or dancing and trailing wing-like form, surrounded by a border of painted abstract shapes in blue and red, with shapes of yellow and red plastic overlaying the page creating color changes and contrast. The painting is laid down on a cutting of metallic threaded green and pink woven silk, which rests on a spread of natural linen woven fabric. Inscribed on page "Zerbe, 1968, Gem 132", and on verso "Zerbe, 1968, Gem 132". Also on verso, remant of gallery label "Gem 132, ARSG #172, Karl Zerbe", and cleaning instructions for Plexiglas. Framed 18.75" x 14.75".
