Description
American, 1903-1932. T.J. Hawkes & Co. (American/ New York, 1895-1964) and Steuben (American/ New York, 1903- ). A citrine blown glass center bowl with sterling silver foot and detachable base. Glass fluoresces under black light indicating uranium content and turn of the century manufacturing, and produces a deep bell chime sound when tapped. Marked on bottom of base "Hawkes Sterling, 540 PWTS", and on bottom of foot "Hawkes Sterling". Detached base weighs approximately 40.485 troy ounces, foot cannot be accurately weighed as it does not detach from glass. Approximately 18 7/8" in diameter at top x 11 5/8" tall._x000D_
Note: Frederick Carder and Thomas J. Hawkes co-founded the Steuben Glass Works in Corning, NY and produced colored glass pieces with the T.J. Hawkes mark through 1932. It is not uncommon for pieces from this period to not have a Steuben mark.
