Salvador Dali (Spanish, 1904-1989),"American Yachting Scene"-1971 from Currier & Ives series, lithograph in colors with collage of offset lithograph in colors on wove paper, pencil signed lower right and numbered left of center "47/250". Verso with stamp that reads "Phyllis N. Lucas" for New York publisher. Framed approximately 29.5" x 37.8". Sheet size approximately 21.75" x 29.8

Note: A reproduction of The Great Ocean Yacht Race Between Henrietta, Fleetwing & Vesta, by Currier & Ives in 1867 is collaged to the lithograph by Dali. In New York sailing history, the year 1866 is remembered in club annals for the legendary "Transatlantic Race." In December, the New York Yacht Club schooners Henrietta, Fleetwing and Vesta raced from Sandy Hook, New Jersey to the Needles, Isle of Wight for a $90,000 winner-take-all prize. The Henrietta, owned by twenty-one-year old James Gordon Bennett, Jr., and skippered by Captain Samuel S. Samuels, a professional, won the race in 13 days, 21 hours and 55 minutes.

Condition
Colors rich with no signs of fading. Slight signs of mat burn. No rips, tears or holes. Slight wear to corners from handling. Visible residue on back from previous tape mount at top--now connected with hinging tape to mat. No other signs of damage, loss or repair.
